In Hollywood They Have Their Millions

In Hollywood they have their millions
The politicians they have their minions
The media they want their slices
Of power and money and fame.
But whatever they hand out
They frankly don’t give a hoot about
You or your dreams or your life.

Resist the urge to be the loudest voice in the room
Exercise your ears but don’t believe everything you hear
Trade a joke and a handshake but don’t trade in your commonsense
Take their emotional blinders off and let logic be your guide.

Resist the news media telling you what’s right or wrong
When you know in your heart you’d be gagged in a New York minute
If you told them you knew that what’s right is right for everyone
And what’s wrong is wrong no matter what your creed or color.

Resist the celebrity shouting from your TV screen who wouldn’t
Let you into her backyard much less her front door.
Resist the politicians who wipe off a fake tear from fear
That they’re losing control of you and all you hold dear.

Resist the urge to be bankrolled like them by the puppet masters
To spit and rage against your brother because he’s on the other
Side of the fence from you and you can’t see we’re in this together
Because the screaming in your ears from your side sets you off.

In Hollywood they have their millions
The politicians they have their minions
The media they want their slices
Of power and money and fame.
But whatever they hand out
They don’t give a hoot about you
Or your dreams or your life.
